Gary Fountain came to Chatham Hall in 2003 with more than 20 years of educational and administrative experience. He most recently had served as Associate Professor of English and Director of English Teacher Education at Ithaca College. Dr. Fountain received his undergraduate degree from Brown University, a Master’s Degree in Religion from Yale University Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from the Department of English and American Literature at Boston University.
Interesting fact: Dr. Fountain is the author of the critically praised "Remembering Elizabeth Bishop: An Oral Biography", is an opera fanatic (there is a signed photograph of the opera singer Maria Callas over the desk in his office), and cycles numerous miles every morning to defeat the aging process. Chatham Hall is the third girls boarding school (in addition to The Ethel Walker School and Miss Porter's School) at which he has worked.
