Chatham Hall To Travel To Cuba In 2013
- by R. Ankrom
Chatham Hall is heading to Cuba for Spring Break 2013!
Modeled after the successful service program in South Africa, this new trip promises to be as exciting and rewarding—as well as unique. The trip will combine exploration of the dynamic, transitional culture of Cuba with service learning.
Service opportunities in Cuba will include working with a dynamic organic gardening program in Havana, meeting with students at an international school, working alongside coffee harvesters in Santo Tomas, hiking in Las Terrazas, a U.N.-designated biosphere, and preparing food and tutoring in a powerful program for children with Down Syndrome in Pinar del Rio.
Additional activities will include a tour of Havana, a visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Non-Violence, music performances (jazz and rock), a professional baseball game, work with photographers to produce our own portfolios of Old Havana, and collaboration with street artists.
