Facilities & Boarding
Facilities for our equestrian school include a permanent hunter trial field, the indoor Mars Riding Arena, and several outdoor schooling arenas.
The Mars Riding Arena is the centerpiece of our extensive equestrian school facilities. Measuring 125 by 250 feet in size, Mars Riding Arena allows for year-long riding, regardless of weather conditions. Its facilities include eight indoor stalls, offices, two wash bays and a common room for rides. The arena was opened in 1998 and is named for the Mars family, whose daughter is an alumna.
Hunter Trial Field
The permanent hunter trial field sits just below the soccer field and is used by the riding department for a variety of equestrian events.
Students are welcome to bring their own horse, provided the horse’s ability fits within our equestrian school lesson program. A boarder’s horse may not be ridden by any other student without written permission of the owner and the Director of Riding each time. There is a boarding agreement that is available from the Director of Riding.
Chatham Hall owns 35 to 40 school horses of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds that are available to our riders within the lesson program. Girls may choose to board a horse of their own or lease a favorite school horse.
Our school horses are donated from a variety of professionals. They are all schooled in the forward system of riding and range in ability from the beginner school string to advanced-level show horses. Horses are available for lease to students who prefer to focus their attention on one horse throughout the show season.
