Writer in Residence

Our Claudia Emerson '75 Writer in Residence program, named for our Pulitzer Prize-winning alumna, brings acclaimed writers, poets, novelists, journalists, and songwriters to campus each year. These writers engage with students through readings, classroom visits, and one-on-one conversations, inspiring thoughtful reflection and creative expression. The program is a celebration of language, perspective, and the power of storytelling to foster empathy and connection.

The Claudia Emerson ’75 Writer in Residence is a highlight of the Chatham Hall curriculum. Stewarded by our English Department, this program brings a noted writer to campus each year to share their inspiring work and engage in meaningful conversations with our students.
