Riders Triumph During Educational Trip to Ocala, FL
During the School’s January Term, the Equine Studies course took a trip to not only compete in a renowned horse show, but get a behind the scenes look at the industry.
Led by Director of Riding Ally Doyon and Assistant Director of Riding Emma Lane, four students traveled to the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, FL for more than a week of riding and learning.
The four students spent their time practicing judging, learning about competition preparations, and meeting various professionals within the equine industry. Paloma Egido ‘25 also served as assistant coach and groom in addition to shadowing official WEC veterinarians, USEF stewards, and saddle fitters.
During the competition, Maeve Raible ‘25 piloted Chatham Hall’s Olive U to several wins in the 2ft and 2’3” divisions. Lainey Risley ‘26 earned an incredible 4th-place finish in her first Hunter Derby and a Reserve Champion finish in the Low Children’s Equitation division. Lilly Corser ‘27 was named all-around Champion in the Long Stirrup Hunter division in addition to earning a 2nd-place finish in the Opportunity Hunter Classic.
