Finding Southern Hospitality in the Bahamas: A Visitor's Tale
Caroline Fisk P'24, '27, Chief Enrollment Officer
The Bahamas has always been a favorite vacation destination for many, thanks to its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and fun-filled activities.
But recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Bahamas for a different reason – to recruit students for Chatham Hall, a top girls' boarding school in Virginia. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Bahamas and Chatham Hall had so much in common. In addition to the beauty of our geographical areas, we share southern hospitality.
The moment I landed in the Bahamas, I felt welcomed. From the hotel staff and taxi drivers to the street vendors, everyone was quick to offer their assistance and make me feel comfortable. The people of the Bahamas have this uncanny ability to make you feel like you've known them for years, even if you're a stranger. Everywhere I went, people greeted me with a smile and a friendly hello, and their warmth and genuine interest in getting to know me made me feel right at home…like my home at Chatham Hall, a school community known for its hospitality.
The laid-back pace of life in the Bahamas adds to the charm of the people. Unlike the hustle and bustle of city life, the locals seem to be in no hurry, and they're always willing to take a moment to chat and get to know you. At Chatham Hall, the faculty and staff take the time to get to know the students on a personal level. The students, faculty, and staff become a Chatham Hall family who strive across all grades and roles to make everyone feel welcome. Come see for yourself!
