Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are concepts of paramount importance at Chatham Hall.
Together, they work to ensure that we are a community that not only respects each other’s differences but finds value, beauty, and even magic in them. We welcome and encourage a richness of cultures, languages, backgrounds, beliefs, and opinions to ensure that our community sees an accurate representation of the outside world and the richness that exists beyond our town. We encourage open dialogue and discussion between students with differing views, and we offer global student experiences to allow everyone to develop a curiosity for difference, empathy, and respect for the human experience.
Each year, our director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEIB) works with our DEIB Task Force, which is made up of students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumnae, and student DEIB Ambassadors, to select a theme for the year. Review the 2023-2024 Mission Statement and Fact Sheet to learn more about the School's shift to Cultural Consciousness & Intuition (CCI). You can also read a letter from the Student Awareness Group and a presentation from Chief Diversity Officer Deborah Glymph.
Students who represent a diversity of classes have been chosen to serve as DEI Ambassadors for the school year. They will complete formal DEI leadership training and assist in the creation and implementation of a Standards Handbook.
