Our Mission

Equipping curious thinkers to lead lives of impact.

Our Values

Our Principles

At Chatham Hall, the Honor Code and Purple & Golden Rule create a foundation of trust that unites our community. Students, teachers, and staff live by these principles, preparing students for lives of honor and impact. Our commitment to civil discourse builds empathy, respect, and open dialogue—vital skills for future change-makers and leaders. Like generations before them, today’s students will carry these values forward, shaping a better world.

HONOR CODE
The Honor Code is the guiding precept of the School. It states:

I will not lie.
I will not cheat.
I will not steal.
I will report all infractions of Honor.

PURPLE & GOLDEN RULE
The Purple & Golden Rule is founded upon the expectation of mutual respect, consideration, and thoughtfulness. The rule holds all members of the Chatham Hall community accountable for their actions and seeks to create a principled and caring sisterhood.
  • I will respect all people and recognize that other people may have customs and beliefs different from mine.
  • I will respect and follow the rules of Chatham Hall, taking responsibility for my actions and mistakes.
  • I will honor the concept of “White Flag” – I will respect the property and domain of others.
  • When faced with a choice, I will endeavor to do the honorable and right thing.
  • I will set an example for my peers by my actions and words.
  • I will support others when they are following the Purple & Golden Rule and will counsel those who are not.

CIVIL DISCOURSE STATEMENTS
  1. We will let others finish speaking before responding to avoid interrupting. We understand that pauses and silences can be necessary and allow us to process information.
  2. We will listen to learn and understand.
  3. We will understand that, if we do not agree, we do not need to be divided. We believe in appropriateness, respect, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
  4. We will strive to ensure that all students feel welcomed and comfortable on our campus.
  5. We will approach all people with respect and will reject stereotypes of all kinds. We will remain focused on ideas to avoid making personal attacks.
  6. We will express hurt feelings and will admit when there is a lack of understanding. We will be honest and offer trust and belief.
  7. We will differentiate between facts and opinions; both are valid when expressed appropriately.
  8. We will focus our discussion on and between those who are present in order to give everyone their own voice.
  9. Remaining neutral, we will facilitate the tough conversations. We will help others form their own views while seeking to understand opinions different from their own.
  10. We will practice active listening with intentional pauses to see others' points of view.
