For Spring Break, thirteen of our Spanish students will travel to Spain. Students will encounter a fully immersive experience during their time in Málaga on the southern coast of Spain, living with host families, attending language classes, and participating in cultural workshops involving Spanish cuisine, art, dance, and history. Ms. Emory and Ms. Cruz will accompany our students as they embark on this trip. Their adventures will also take them to Granada, Nerja, Frigiliana, Sevilla, and Madrid. This experience will bring students to key Spanish landmarks and see some famous art museums, such as the Prado.
This week, students visited the art studio and Mrs. Dixon to create handmade gifts for their host families. The hand-made gifts are an excellent way for our students to show their thanks to the families that will host them and are a token to remember them by.
Students had three stations: silk-screening on tea towels, drawing/sketching images from Pablo Picasso (Picasso was born in Málaga) onto tea towels, and using clay to make magnets. Students also went outside the box; while some made magnets, others decided to make a spoon-resting dish for cooking. For the silk screening, students used an image from the famous painting "Las Meninas" by Diego Velázquez as a silhouette on the tea towels.
