At Chatham Hall, students are encouraged to explore their passions; for Anushree A. '27, that passion is jewelry making. What started as a childhood hobby, fueled by craft kits from her parents, has grown into a thriving small business.
Anushree’s love for creating unique, colorful, handmade pieces led her to start selling her jewelry in seventh grade at art fairs in Ohio. When she arrived at Chatham Hall, she initially didn’t consider selling her work on campus. However, after receiving enthusiastic feedback from peers and faculty, she took the leap and became the first student to go through the official approval process for on-campus sales.
Now, with school support, Anushree can showcase her one-of-a-kind designs to a new audience. While she was initially hesitant, feeling insecure and unsure about sharing her work with her peers, she has gained significant confidence in the process. Seeing her work appreciated by classmates, faculty, and even staff members who have commissioned custom pieces brings her hope to continue on.
“I love seeing people wear my jewelry and knowing that something I made brings them joy,” she says.
Beyond artistic fulfillment, Anushree’s business has given her valuable entrepreneurial experience. She reinvests her earnings into higher-quality materials and saves a portion for the future. Under the school’s new policy, she also contributes 5% of her sales back to Chatham Hall, supporting other student-run businesses.
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Just go for it. Take a risk because you'll never know unless you try. And trying is better than regretting.”
With a spring collection on the way, Anushree is proving that creativity, determination, and a supportive community can turn a passion into something truly special.
