Leader in Residence 2025 Announced

Co-Architect of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Alaa Murabit named 2024-2025 Guth Leader in Residence
Chatham Hall is excited to announce that Co-Architect of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Alaa Murabit will serve as its 2024-2025 Polly Wheeler Guth ‘44 Leader in Residence.

Murabit will visit campus in February, giving a community keynote address at 7:30 p.m. on February 10. During her two-day visit, she will enjoy meals, conversation, and companionship with students and educators, small group discussions, and more.

“We are so pleased to be able to welcome Alaa Murabit to Chatham Hall at this time, as we look to a new strategic plan that includes a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” commented Dean of Academics Martha Griswold. “The faculty will have completed professional development to enhance our programming and look to the Goals for exciting entrepreneurial work that our curious thinkers will ideate and carry out. Murabit’s visit will cement the importance of these Goals for the global community, of which we are all members.”

She is a medical doctor, Harvard Radcliffe Fellow for her work “Architects of Peace: Redefining the Role of Women in Today’s Growing Security Agenda,” and a board member of the Malala Fund. Murabit has dedicated her life to improving the lives of women around the world, including founding Co-agency, an accelerator for emerging women’s leadership in security, health, peacebuilding, and policy.

Dr. Murabit has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the TIME 100, the Canadian Meritorious Service Cross, the New York Times TrustHero award, Forbes 30 under 30, Nelson Mandela International Change-maker designee, Harvard Law Woman Inspiring Change, the 2023 Vanity Fair Global Goals Leader, and the 100 Most Influential Women in History recognition by the Canadian Government.

Given Dr. Murabit’s close involvement in developing U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, particularly ones focused on the education and health of women and girls. She is the perfect Guth Leader in Residence to usher in an exciting and focused time at Chatham Hall. We look forward to her visit in February.
