Lin's '24 Art to be Displayed at U.S. Capitol

Krystal Lin’s ‘24 digital painting “The Whale” has been selected for display at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

“Krystal created this piece during our January Term Illustration course,” noted Art Department Chair Kristen Morrison. “I entered Krystal's digital painting into the Congressional Art Competition. Five high school students are selected from each district in the U.S., and Krystal was selected for our district of Virginia.”

Pittsylvania County is part of Virginia’s fifth Congressional District, which includes the majority of Southside Virginia. The judging panel for the competition was composed of Liberty University Arts Department faculty.

According to the Congressional Art Competition webpage, “each spring the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.”

Lin’s work was recently honored at a district award ceremony, and will be recognized at a national ceremony in Washington, D.C. It will be displayed along with other winning works for one year.
