Over the last several weeks, students were invited to the Large Drawing Room to take part in a meaningful creative project—making cherry blossoms. But this was more than just an art activity. As students chose their shares of purple and pink, they were invited to connect, reflect, and share stories of the special women in their lives.
The big table in the Large Drawing Room was intentionally chosen as the space for it not only offers space for artistry but also room for conversation. Students were encouraged to answer the questions: Who do you admire? Who has inspired or cared for you? What does it mean to carry forward the lessons and strength of the women who came before us?
Each cherry blossom was signed with the name of a woman who influenced them—whether it was a family member, mentor, historical figure, or someone they simply looked up to. On March 7, these blossoms will come together in an art installation in Dutch, a vibrant tribute to the women who shape our lives.
Did you know that March was chosen for Women’s History Month because of “marching weather” and its connection to international celebrations of women? Or that the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C., hold a special connection to Eleanor Roosevelt?
This year’s Women's History Month theme—"Moving Forward Together: Women Educating & Inspiring Generations"—encourages us all to recognize the powerful impact of women in our lives and communities.
