This summer, Alice W. ’26 is taking her passion for entrepreneurship beyond the classroom and into the real world. After thriving in Chatham Hall’s Year One Entrepreneurial class, Alice took the initiative to apply to several highly regarded summer programs in business and economics—programs known for their rigor, selectivity, and focus on forward thinking.
Alice applied to four programs, including the Essentials of Entrepreneurship through Wharton Global Youth at the University of Pennsylvania, Barnard College’s Athena Summer Innovation Institute, a business-focused experience at Babson College, and an economics program at the University of Chicago.
In speaking with Alice about these exciting opportunities, she shared that enrolling in the University of Chicago program came down to fit and long-term goals. “Their program uses experimental learning to explore economic concepts,” Alice explained, adding that this unique perspective is something she hasn’t encountered before.
The University of Chicago experience offers an in-person, hands-on approach to economics and is part of a pathway that could strengthen future college applications.
Last summer, Alice participated in an online entrepreneurship program with Babson College, a school she is seriously considering for her undergraduate studies. This summer’s in-person experience in Chicago offers deeper learning, collaboration, and the chance to explore a new city.
The program at the University of Chicago will run for three weeks in July. It will offer an immersive academic environment and the opportunity to engage with peers who share her interests.
Alice’s journey is a testament to the power of curiosity, perseverance, and strategic decision-making. Beth Barksdale, the Director of our Entrepreneurship program, shared that if a most improved award could be given to a student in class, Alice would have been the recipient. “Alice’s growth during her sophomore year was exponential, and I’m so excited she has continued to develop her entrepreneurial mindset.”
During her senior year, Alice will launch her own business venture to become certified in entrepreneurship at Chatham Hall. Attending top-rated summer programs to augment the pursuit of her dreams will serve Alice well, and we look forward to the experience and expertise she’ll bring back with her!
